Fulfill your loan counseling obligation online:

• It is a federal requirement that all new borrowers of Stafford loans receive entrance loan counseling prior to receiving their first loan. This requirement was set up because the federal government and financial aid professionals believe that an informed borrower will be more likely to repay student loans on time.

• You may complete this requirement by going into the Student Center of the My UW website at http://my.wisc.edu

• In the Finances section, click on ‘Accept/Decline Awards’ and you will see a link for Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling. You will read some information about Stafford Loans and answer five related questions. When your counseling is complete it will automatically update our records to say you have met the entrance counseling requirement.

• We have staff available to answer any questions you may have while going through entrance counseling. You can either call our office at (608) 262-4987 or send us an e-mail with your questions; stafford.loans@finaid.wisc.edu A staff person will respond to your questions within 24 hours.
